Deputies Receive Medal of Valor
The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office is proud to announce that 5 Deputies were recently awarded the Medal of Valor. On Thursday January 27th , 2012 5 Lancaster County Sheriff’s Deputies were honored when they were awarded the Medal of Valor by the South Carolina Sheriff’s Association. These deputies along with 17 other officers from around the state received the award at the Sheriff’s Association Winter Conference held in Columbia.
Investigator Jason Catoe, Deputy Spencer McInvaille, and Deputy Craig Lilly were honored as a result of an incident that occurred on February 25, 2011. These deputies took heroic actions to save the life of a man that was attempting suicide. The quick response and selfless performance of these deputies allowed them to rescue the suicidal man and revive him using CPR until medical assistance arrived.
Deputy Mark Whitley and Deputy Jeramie Mackinson were honored as a result of an incident that occurred on April 06, 2011. These deputies responded to house fire and found the home engulfed in smoke. These deputies forced entry and heard the resident inside. These deputies then entered the apartment, located the resident, and removed her from the residence. It is due to the selfless dedication and service in the face of danger that the victim survived the incident.
Sheriff Faile said, “We are very proud of these deputies, their selfless and dedication and service to the citizens of the county exemplifies the type of employees we want. It is because of their quick actions that these citizens are still alive today. We are very thankful for their service.”
